One thing that the government has influence over in my life is where I work. I work at a local, small business store in Cape Charles. The Small Business Administration through the government provides support for small businesses. It provides support for my bosses, my work, and the other small businesses my bosses own.

Electricity is what runs the world, but in order to do so, the Department of Energy has to be there. In order to turn on a light, watch what is on television, keep things cold in a refrigerator, and be able to charge phones, computers, and ipads; we must have electricity. I use these items every day and I have to keep them charged in order to use them. I use electricity everyday. The Department of Energy regulates the electricity in the US.

Food is what keeps us alive, in order for us to eat and stay healthy, the Food and Drug Administration helps (FDA). The FDA regulates many different products, including meat, poultry, and eggs. I enjoy eating meat and eggs, so I would rather know they are FDA approved than getting salmonella and getting deathly ill. So, the FDA affects my life the most.

The CDC affects my everyday life through keeping a healthy environment around me. They dictate how clean my school has to be in terms of if there is mold growing in the ceiling. They also make regulations that restaurants have to abide by in order to stay open. They regulate daily prescriptions and what kinds of chemicals can be in those so that we are not harmed by any chemicals in the drug. The CDC overall makes the U.S. a much healthier environment and it is significant in our everyday lives.

Health Insurance is something that I am going to have my entire life. My parents pay for it right now, but when I am on my own, it is going to be my responsibility to find the best health insurance for me and my family. The department of Health and Human Services regulates health insurance, and without them, medical care would be too expensive for most people.

One thing that the US Government controls, in which affects me while working is the US Department of Defense, but more specifically, the US Coast Guard. The Coast Guard affects me mainly due to my job, which is working on the water on clams and oysters. They often stop and talk to us while working and check to make sure that we have the necessary safety equipment required, like having enough life jackets and to make sure that I have a boating license to legally drive a boat. Also, they will check to ensure that we are not violating any wildlife laws, like harvesting undersized clams and oysters and to check that we are not polluting the environment around us.
