Directions: Having played the three games, complete the following questions in three separate posts.
Post I: Answer the following questions in one comprehensive paragraph: How successful were you in cutting the deficit? How successful were you in supporting your personal values? Explain. What decisions did you have to make that you didn’t want to make? What was difficult about balancing values and debt? How would you describe the task of balancing the budget? Post 2: If you could create the budget, what would be your priorities? Keep in mind our actual situation in your answer. Think in terms of actual dollars. Additionally, what is at least one thing you think Congress and the President MUST do to NOW to help bring down the deficit/debt? Post 3: Comment on the classmate of another by agreeing or disagreeing, and stating why.

I do not agree with a big raise in taxes because it would cause the economy to decline in the U.S. since there would be less money to be spent by the american people.

Post 3: I agree that healthcare should be focused on because it is something that people mostly need, and not just in the US. However, I also agree that taxes should be raised. In your opinion, do you think taxes should be raised all at once or over a span of time? Nice job!

I totally agree with your focused points. Yes on health, military, agriculture, and commerce. All of these issues should be more prevalent to the U.S. and I also agree that space exploration isn't such a huge deal. Nice job.

Post 1: While playing the games, I was kind of successful in cutting the deficit. There were some choices that were hard to make and it was also difficult for me to borrow money because I dislike borrowing money from anyone. I found out while playing the game that if I would try to cut something that I could easily get rid of that I could not afford it. I was successful in keeping my personal values while playing the games, but it was not always what made the people happy, which is why I cut the taxes as much as I could to make the people happy. One decision that I made that I didn’t particularly want to make is I raised the retirement age to about 67 so that I could keep the money a little longer and making that decision upset a lot of people. The task of balancing the budget is extremely difficult because you have to keep a certain amount of money while keeping people happy. If the people are not happy, then a person could possibly not get elected again.

Post 2: If I created the budget for the US my main goal would be to strengthen healthcare. Every person in this country should get the same level of healthcare, no matter what their insurance or social stability. This would be an extremely expensive task because every medicine would have to cost the same amount. Now, if someone has health insurance they could get 5 medications for free, but on a different insurance you would have to pay for all 5 of those medications. Doctors are also very expensive, so I think the first step would be to first make all Emergency Room care the same for everyone and keeping every hospital up to good standards. I am not sure exactly what I would have to cut in order to do this, but I would make it happen hopefully over a ten year span. I would start by raising taxes by 2% every year. In my perspective, people would much rather have amazing health care by paying a little more taxes.

After playing the Budget Game, I was not successful in cutting the budget deficit, mainly sticking to values and beliefs. Some decisions that were hard to make were cuts to things including things that were dependent on public funding, like education. Some issues in balancing the budget was being able to budget everything and give an even amount of money to each category that needed the money. Overall, I would say balancing the budget was extremely challenging. In my opinion, if I was in charge of the budget, education would be the priority.
