Post 2: I think many households relate to mine. My household includes a mother, a father, two kids, and three dogs. This is very typical, 60% of American families agree that two children makes for an ideal family size. Then family wise, my father is an ex marine, as of the beginning of the year 1.4 million people were serving in the United States armed forces. That’s about 0.4% of the world’s population, but now he is a cop. At the beginning of the year, the full time state and local law enforcement agency accounted for approximately 1.1 million people. My mother is a state licensed daycare provider, this is less likely in the U.S then my father’s job. There aren’t certain numbers that add up to how many licensed daycare providers there are in the U.S because each state has different rules and regulations but it’s not extremely common. So I’d say my father’s occupation is much more common in this country but their jobs are equally as important. My father’s occupation helps protect people and the property, they patrol, respond to issues, enforce laws, issue citations, and much more. My mother’s occupation supervises children’s safety, prepares meals for the children, starts daily routines for them to get them ready for their future in school, and also makes sure they learn, sleep, and play.

Post 3: I live in Northampton County on the Eastern Shore. The Eastern Shore of Virginia only contains of two counties, Northampton and Accomack County. In Northampton County, the population is 11,846 people. In Accomack County, the population is 32,545 people. This is because Accomack County is much larger (1,310 mi²) than Northampton County ( 795 mi².) But that isn’t the only reason, there are more job opportunities in Accomack County, the only hospital on the Eastern Shore was recently moved into Accomack, that one hospital employs a huge “chunk” of the population. But, unfortunately there’s still a large group of unemployed residents. The unemployment rate in Northampton County is 5.6%, then in Accomack County appears a little less, at 3.7% but they do have 20,699 more residents then we do. Northampton County has a few main attractions, we have a National Wildlife Refuge and a beautiful beach town, Cape Charles. Accomack also has Chincoteague Wildlife Refuge, Assateague, Eastern Shore Community College and a few more attractions. If I had to choose two huge tourist destinations it would be our beach towns, Chincoteague and Cape Charles. So as the two counties seem much different, we both have beautiful nature qualities.

Post 4: Diversity means a lot to me, i love how our country includes all races, all ethnicities, all ages, all sexual orientation, all religion, and all socio-economic status. I agree that everyone should be treated equally and I know that’s not how everyone feels but its my opinion. If we were all the same, I think that’d be extremely boring. Having diversity is mostly important because it helps with better ideas, helps in schools, wide variety of talent, and the language skills can open up doors for people and businesses. The US is, as of 2014, 63% White, 16.9% Hispanic or Latino, 13.1% Black or African American, 5.1% Asian, 1.2% American Indian/ Alaskan Native, 0.20% Native Hawaiian/ Pacific Islander, and 2.4% two or more races. No, “American” is not a race or ethnicity, it’s just a name. Like I say I’m American because I was born and raised in America, but I classify as white. The only question I have about diversity is.. why do people dislike diversity?

I agree with you Courtney. In my opinion, people probably don't like diversity because they do not know a lot about other cultures and have let the media cloud their views of other cultures.

I have close to the same question as you. Why can't people accept someone without knowing their culture or race. I agree with everything that you are saying.

This is interesting Mckay, I did the same Northampton vs. Accomack County. We both have different facts, you seem to have looked at population overall, very neat. I wonder why the population is decreasing?

I agree with this Nathan, this is very true. Everyone in the United States comes from some other country and our ancestors were all immigrants, which is how we are here.

I loved how you said that a community without diversity is boring, because I totally agree! Your questions are ver valid and something I also wonder.

To me, diversity means the combinations of many different backgrounds, races, ethnicity and religions within one large area or country. Overall, the United States is by far one of the most diverse in the world, with people being from everywhere around the world and backgrounds within the United States. In my opinion, there is no such thing as an American race. This is due to several different things, but the main reason is because all of the citizens of the United States have come from somewhere, and have ancestry from another country, with a large group having heritage from places like Ireland or Germany.
