Unit 7: The Great War & the Great Depression
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." With the drawn of imperialism, and the US as a world power, the world entered the greatest war it had seen to date, World War I. After three years of neutrality, the US came into the war on the side of the Allies, fought to the finish, and helped sign the Treaty of Versailles in 1918. The move into the 20s brought a new spirit to America. The Jazz Age, the automobile, new fashion trends, and new cultural opportunities like motion pictures and night clubs, got American moving, and life changed for most. After a decade of stability for all but the farmers, the stock market crashed, bringing America into the Great Depression. The 1930s would mark the most financially difficult period that Americans had ever seen, only to be brought out by an even bigger war than the first.
